Biography
Paul was born in Melbourne, Australia and spent the first five years of his life in the Philippines. His passion for acting started then when he played the role of Joseph in a pre-school Christmas play. When he noticed the Virgin Mary had forgotten her lines, he took over and said them as well. He did the whole thing by himself, using different voices. The stable animals were completely thrown off, but Paul was immediately bitten by the acting bug...and, quite literally, Mary.
He came to the United States with his family when he was eight years old and grew up in McLean, Virginia. Paul continued acting in high school and performed in numerous musicals. At the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, he performed in a number of plays, including A Mid Summer Night's Dream that went to the Edinburgh Festival. At St. Andrews he pursued a degree in English Literature, and received The Frank Muir Prize for Humor Writing, which inspired him to write and direct his own play, Eironeia.
After college, Paul worked as a proposal writer for an accounting firm while performing in community theater. He moved to New York in 2001 and attended the two year M.F.A. acting program at Brooklyn College where he wrote his thesis on his role of Dennis Ziegler in This Is Our Youth, by Kenneth Lonergan. Paul spent his summers working at a performing arts camp in New Jersey, where he taught acting and adapted and directed plays.
He began his professional acting career in 2003 when he was cast in a sketch comedy show, Now That You've Seen Me Naked, which enjoyed an extended three-month run at the Sage Theater in Manhattan. In 2005 Paul became a member of the theater company "Sponsored by Nobody", earning critical acclaim as Sixth Man in Kevin Doyle's absurdist comedy, The Position.
